Welcome Reception
Lisbon ?arraial? ? Sunday, July 11, 19:00 ? 22:30
Faculty of Sciences, alley between Building C5 and Building C6
A typical Lisbon ?arraial? (popular party) might be the right way to conjure up the atmosphere for the EURO XXIV. And why not a barbecue with different types of meat, codfish, Portuguese wines and the popular ?Marchas? (parades)? Just the right ingredients for an entertaining evening, the chance to see old friends and meet new people.
While all that?s going on, Soccer fans will be able to watch the World Cup Final on a big screen in Rooms 3.2.13, 3.2.14, 3.2.15 and 3.2.16.
Folk Parades
The ?Marchas populares? (Folk Parades) are a strong tradition for the people of Lisbon. Every year, the Lisboa Folk Marches parade down Avenida da Liberdade, on the night of June 12, the eve of St. Anthony, which is the city holiday. Clubs and recreational associations of every neighbourhood descend the Avenue, competing for the best parade, music, choreography and costume. Two of the most attractive ?Marchas? (Bica and Marvila) will join the EURO XXIV participants at the Welcome Reception for a lively, colourful evening. All will be emulating/will join in the typical ?arraial? (popular party) and festivities in honour of the three Popular Saints: Santo Ant?nio (Saint Anthony), S?o Jo?o (Saint John) and S?o Pedro (Saint Peter).
